Where the Aegean meets the Mediterranean
Muğla province stretches along Türkiye's south-west corner, from the windmill-topped Bodrum peninsula on the Aegean to the Lycian shores of Fethiye on the Mediterranean. In between lie deep, pine-fringed gulfs, river deltas and hundreds of coves best explored by boat. This is the heartland of the blue cruise: wooden gulets set out from Bodrum, Marmaris, Göcek and Fethiye to drop anchor in bays that are often unreachable by road. The provincial capital, Muğla town, sits inland and is not a holiday destination in itself – the villas are all on or near the coast.
Districts and areas on Villora
- Fethiye: a lively harbour town with Ölüdeniz, Hisarönü, Ovacık, Kayaköy, Faralya, Kabak, Çalış, Göcek, Yanıklar and Üzümlü around it – everything from beach-side family villas to secluded hideaways in the hills.
- Bodrum: white cubic houses, a crusader castle and a peninsula of contrasting bays – chic Yalıkavak and Türkbükü, bohemian Gümüşlük, sandy Bitez and Ortakent, sunset-facing Turgutreis.
- Ortaca and Dalyan: a reed-lined river, rock tombs of ancient Kaunos and the protected İztuzu turtle beach, only half an hour from Dalaman Airport.
- Dalaman: the airport district, with a quiet, natural coastline and quick transfers.
- Marmaris: a busy marina town in a bay ringed by mountains, with gentler İçmeler next door and the unspoilt Bozburun peninsula (Selimiye, Hisarönü Gulf) beyond.
When to go
The season runs from May to October, with July and August the hottest and busiest months; daytime temperatures on the coast typically reach 30–35 °C. The sea is warmest in August – around 26–27 °C in Fethiye and Marmaris, and a little cooler at 24–25 °C on Bodrum's Aegean side, where the summer meltem breeze keeps afternoons fresher. June and September are ideal for couples and walkers, and a villa with a heated pool makes May and October very comfortable too.
Getting there
Muğla has two international airports. Dalaman (DLM) serves Fethiye (around 45 minutes), Göcek (about 25 minutes), Dalyan (about 30 minutes) and Marmaris (roughly 1 hour 20 minutes). Milas-Bodrum (BJV) is about 35–40 minutes from Bodrum town and around 50 minutes from Yalıkavak. A hire car is recommended for most villa areas, although central locations such as Bodrum town, Çalış or İçmeler can be enjoyed largely on foot.
Choosing your villa
Villas listed on Villora range from compact stone houses within walking distance of a harbour to large family properties with gardens and infinity pools overlooking the sea. If privacy matters, filter for secluded or conservative villas, where the pool is screened from neighbours – these are especially common in the hills around Fethiye, Üzümlü and Dalyan. Honeymooners tend to favour sea-view villas in Göcek, hillside hideaways above Ölüdeniz, or the quieter bays of the Bodrum peninsula.
Every listing shows its VillaNo and its tourism permit number (Turizm Belge No), so you can check the property before you contact the owner directly.
