From fishing village to superyacht harbour

Yalıkavak lies on the north-western tip of the Bodrum peninsula, about 18 km from Bodrum town. Not so long ago it was a quiet village of sponge divers and fishermen; today Yalıkavak Marina, also known as Palmarina, welcomes some of the largest yachts in the Mediterranean, surrounded by designer boutiques, cafés and restaurants. Step away from the marina, though, and the old village is still there – a harbour lined with fish restaurants, narrow lanes, and stone windmills on the hill above the bay.

Beaches, sunsets and the evening scene

The coastline around Yalıkavak is made up of small bays and coves rather than one long beach, and many of them are home to stylish beach clubs with sunbeds, pontoons and restaurants. Because the village faces west, sunsets are a daily event – whether from a marina bar or your own villa terrace. Evenings tend to start late: an early-evening swim, a sunset drink, then dinner by the water. Neighbouring Gündoğan, Türkbükü and Gümüşlük are all a short drive away when you want a change of scene.

Villas in Yalıkavak

Yalıkavak is one of the most sought-after villa locations in Bodrum. The hillsides around the bay are dotted with contemporary villas in natural stone and white render, many with infinity pools, outdoor kitchens and wide terraces looking out over the Aegean towards the sunset. You will also find family villas in quieter residential lanes and secluded properties where the pool is shielded from view by walls and gardens – a good choice for families who value privacy. Some villas are within walking distance of the marina and village harbour, while those higher up trade convenience for bigger views; check the listing map before you decide.

  • Sea-view villas with infinity pools and sunset terraces
  • Family villas close to the village and beaches
  • Secluded villas with screened pools for extra privacy
  • Villas with heated pools for spring and autumn stays

When to go

The season runs from May to October. July and August are the liveliest months, when the marina and beach clubs are at their busiest. The sea reaches around 24–25 °C in August, and the meltem wind that sweeps the north-west of the peninsula keeps the heat bearable – though it can make some bays choppy in the afternoon. June and September are ideal if you prefer a calmer pace and easier restaurant bookings.

Getting there

Milas-Bodrum Airport (BJV) is about 50 km from Yalıkavak, a drive of around 50 minutes. Dolmuş minibuses run to Bodrum town, but a hire car or private transfer is the most practical option for reaching beach clubs and neighbouring bays.

Before you contact the owner
