Villas to Rent in Demre
Demre, ancient Myra, is a quiet corner of the Lycian coast known for its rock tombs, the Church of St Nicholas and boat trips to Kekova. Compare villas listed on Villora and contact owners directly.
Myra, St Nicholas and Kekova
Demre lies around 45 km east of Kaş, on a fertile plain dotted with greenhouses. It is best known as ancient Myra, where Lycian rock tombs are carved into the cliff above a well-preserved Roman theatre. In the town itself stands the Church of St Nicholas, linked to the bishop who inspired the Santa Claus legend. Close by, the ancient harbour of Andriake at Çayağzı houses a museum of Lycian civilisations and a sandy beach.
Why stay here
Demre feels far less touristy than its neighbours, making it a good base for travellers who prefer culture and calm. Boat trips to the sunken city of Kekova and the castle village of Simena (Kaleköy) leave from Çayağzı and Üçağız nearby. Villas here tend to be relaxed, with gardens and private pools, and you will usually want a car.
Getting there
Antalya Airport is roughly 145 km away, around 2 hours 15 minutes by road; Dalaman is about 195 km. The season runs from May to October, with warm sea well into autumn.
