Holiday Villas Within Walking Distance of the Sea
Grab a towel and walk down to the water – no car, no parking. Every villa here is listed by its owner as 1 km or less from the sea or the nearest beach.
What 1 km really means on this coast
On flat ground, 1 km is a relaxed 10–15 minute walk. But the Turkish coast is rarely flat. In Kalkan and Kaş the roads down to the sea are often steep, so the easy stroll down becomes a climb on the way back. Side, Belek and the lower parts of Ölüdeniz and Hisarönü are generally flatter. Look at the gradient, not just the distance.
Sandy beach, pebbles or a swimming platform?
“The sea” doesn’t always mean a sandy beach here. In Kaş and Kalkan most swimming happens from beach clubs, wooden jetties and rocky platforms with ladders into deep, clear water. Fethiye and Ölüdeniz have pebble beaches, while Side and Belek are known for long sandy stretches. On the Bodrum peninsula, small coves and jetties are typical. With young children, a shallow sandy beach may matter more than the exact distance.
Questions to ask the owner
- Is the distance measured in a straight line or along the walking route?
- Is the path paved and lit at night, and how steep is it?
- Is the nearest spot a public beach or a paid beach club?
- Are sunbeds and umbrellas charged separately?
- Are there shops, cafés or restaurants on the way?
A holiday without a car?
Many villas close to the sea are also close to a town centre, so a short stay without a rental car can work. If you plan day trips, ask the owner whether a car is worth it.
