What counts as a sunset view?

A villa with sunset views has a terrace, pool deck or living area facing west or south-west, so the evening sun goes down in front of you rather than behind the house. Owners declare this feature themselves, and the experience varies: on some villas the sun drops straight into the sea, on others it sets behind a headland or neighbouring hill. Bear in mind the sunset point moves through the year – further north in midsummer, further south in autumn.

Where to look

The south-west coast has plenty of west-facing slopes. Kalkan's hillsides look out across the bay, the Çukurbağ Peninsula in Kaş faces west towards the Greek island of Meis (Kastellorizo), the slopes above Ölüdeniz and Faralya sit high over open sea, and Bodrum's west coast around Gümüşlük and Yalıkavak is well known for its evenings. Still, every plot is different, so study the photos and the map pin.

Questions for the owner

  • Which way do the terrace and pool actually face?
  • Does the sun set over the sea during your dates, or behind a hill?
  • Could new buildings or trees block the view?
  • Is there evening seating and outdoor lighting on the terrace?
  • Is there shade for the hot afternoon sun on a west-facing deck?

Season and booking

Evenings are long and warm from May to October. In July and August a west-facing terrace soaks up the afternoon heat, so shade and good air conditioning matter. Prices, availability and deposits are set by the owner. Villora does not take bookings – you contact the owner by WhatsApp, phone or email. Check the VillaNo and the Tourism Permit number on the listing, and get the terms confirmed in writing before you pay.

Frequently asked questions

Will I see the sunset from the villa all year?
Not always. The sun sets further north in summer and further south in autumn and winter, so a hill can block it in some months. Ask the owner about your travel dates.
Are west-facing villas hot in summer?
The terrace gets direct afternoon sun. Ask whether there is a pergola, awning or tree shade, and check air conditioning in the main rooms.
Which areas are best for sunsets?
Kalkan, the Çukurbağ Peninsula in Kaş, Ölüdeniz and Faralya, and Gümüşlük or Yalıkavak in Bodrum are good places to start, but the villa's own orientation matters most.
How do I book?
Not through Villora. Contact the owner directly using the WhatsApp, phone or email details on the listing.
